When it comes to fully reorganizing a space, my biggest tip is to set up zones. It makes it so much easier to organize each area and know exactly what purpose a space will serve. Keep reading for my top tips on how to set up zones, plus other organization hacks that will truly make a difference!

My Top Organization Tips

Prioritize & Plan Out High-Traffic Areas

Start by assessing how you and your household naturally move through your home. Identify the spaces where you spend the most time and organize/set up these areas first, it’ll make you feel better having a finished space to chill and relax in between the chaos of unpacking.

How to Set Up Zones

Think about the “zones” you need for each room or the uses you need the room to fill so you can figure out how to best utilize the space. For example, a living room might need a relaxation zone with a couch and TV, a reading nook with a cozy chair, and a storage area for books or games. For the kitchen, you may need pantry/food storage, cooking, serving, entertaining, cleaning, storage, pets, etc. Designating specific zones allows for more intentional use of the space, keeps everything organized and right where you need it, while making it easier to maintain order as you settle into a new home.

Use Clear Labels

After designating zones, keep them organized by using labels on containers, bins, and drawers. This is my favorite label maker for custom labels, or I love this premade pack. This ensures that items go back to their designated spots and makes it easier for everyone in the household to know where things belong. Opt for uniform labels that match your home’s aesthetic for a seamless, tidy appearance.

Vertical Storage Solutions

Make the most of vertical space by installing shelves, hooks, and wall-mounted organizers. In areas like the kitchen, add shelves for spices or cookware. In bedrooms, use tall bookshelves or install wall hooks for bags and hats. This not only frees up floor space but helps keep items visible and easily accessible.

Declutter Before Organizing

Before you start placing items in designated zones, take the time to declutter each space. I think it’s easier to pull everything out and lay it on towels or blankets on the floor by category. Go through and edit first, Get rid of items that no longer serve a purpose or hold value. Only keep what you truly need or what sparks joy, ensuring your home is filled with essentials and meaningful belongings. This helps create a clean slate for more effective and intentional organizing.
